Whāingaroa Writers World: a remedy for abibliophobia

Whāingaroa Writers World is a natural aid in preventing and relieving abibliophobia, a humorous noun describing the very real fear of running out of reading material. The programme provides a potent dose of highly absorbable workshops, writing events, and books by local Raglan authors for anyone who shares the love of writing, illustrating, and reading.

    Here be adjectives

With gems like “golden rays of dappled sunlight”, it’s not surprising I often heard the (terrifically unhelpful) advice that my writing had too many adjectives. It’s the sort of thing that can really give you writer’s block. But check it out, me with The Book I’ve Always Wanted To Write! Let me tell you why I wrote it.

Wop-wops, warm breezes, and cicada songs

Ah, the promise of summer. Remember when summer meant summer holidays? No school, no work, just magic? If I could bottle it, I would. Instead, I did the next best thing: I painted it.

    I wrote a book!

I wrote a book! It’s a memoir. It’s contemporary fantasy. And, it’s epistolary (my new word of the month—it means it’s written in the form of a series of letters). It’s about changing direction, letting go of dreams, picking up new ones, and, ultimately, reconnecting with your magic and living your own story.

    Literally couldn’t help but dance

I’m delighted to invite you to the 12th annual “Figurative” art exhibition at the Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery! And yes, I literally did a crazy, happy dance when Light Space & Time presented their awards for this exhibition. I’m honoured to have 2 artworks receive awards and be exhibited alongside talented artists from around the world.

Thank you so, so much for being part of my artist journey this year. If you’re heading to Raglan for some sun and surf in the next month, pop into the iHub information centre, where they have a display of art by 3 Raglan artists—including moi! Happy holidays, and I shall be back next year with some bi-i-i-i-g things!!!
