Exciting news! I’m delighted to be part of the Exploring Risograph exhibition that’s on now at Beautiful Things.

They’re showing a varied collection of works, all printed in this interesting old-school ink process.

If you’re in Auckland, you can visit the gallery at 16 East Street (Auckland Central, off K’ Road, Monday–Friday: 7 am–6 pm, Saturday: 8 am–1 pm) or you can view the exhibition online.

About ‘Exploring Risograph’

I’ll let Dave, the printer and curator at Beautiful Things, tell you all about the exhibition:

In this month’s ‘Exploring Risograph’ art print exhibition, visitors can experience some of the breadth of possibilities in this unique and slightly quirky printing technique. With an inky finish similar to screen printing yet housed in a digital machine, the risograph offers a wonderful array of colours and blends, and no two prints from it are identical.

The printer and curator, Dave, has collaborated with artists to explore ways to print their work: Ailene’s elegant dance images appear in gold and navy as well as neon pink.

The images in the exhibition cover various styles from more traditional portraits and still life, to pop art, comic, and photography.

The exhibition Exploring Risograph runs through July, and Risograph prints will be among the selection of beautiful things available in the gallery ongoing.

Spotlight classic vs modern

When I painted the ballerinas in my Spotlight collection, I loved working with the drama and simplicity of black and white. But, as you miiiight be able to tell from my other collections, I do love colour. So when Beautiful Things offered to experiment with my ballerinas as monochrome or duotone risograph prints, I replied with a definite, YES!

The thing I love about risograph is the old-school, hand-made, almost rustic, look. And the process allows you to play with so many creative colour possibilities! Which is exactly what Dave, printer and curator at Beautiful Things, did when he experimented with my prints.

And the results? Let me show you!

OK, please help break the tie. My favourite is the modern neon pink print. Dave prefers the classic gold and navy.

How about you—classic or modern?
